[Arlainfotech-l] Budget proposal for ArLA IT Roundtable

George and all;
I know that we have had in-house speakers in the past, usually the easiest
is some panel discussion on a particular area of interest. If we want an
outside speaker, you may want to ask for a budget of $500 - $1000, depending
on how much that person would cost. Don't have a problem doing another
Unconference, thought it worked well, although I heard from some that they
wanted follow up. This list might facilitate that, and there could be other
possibilities, maybe using Facebook or Twitter. Another area which was
brought up last year, but really didn't pan out, was virtual attendance at
executive board meetings, maybe this can become an office IT Roundtable
project? We just has a loose association of people discussing it, and I
thought the Ustream might work, but we need to buy equipment in order to
make this a reality, i.e. microphones, webcams, etc. Bandwidth would have to
be sufficient as well, and I can't remember how good the bandwidth is at the
location of the board meetings. If this works well, maybe there can be
possibilities for virtual attendance at other meetings. Another topic of
interest these days is mobile computing, and I think it is one that we
haven't really addressed. I'm not an expert on that by any means, but I have
been using mobile devices over the last 8 months. Maybe we can have a joint
conference someday with the Resource & Technical Services Division? There
may be some common ground to explore. Anyway, these are just some random
thoughts. Hope this helps.

Subject: [Arlainfotech-l] Budget proposal for ArLA IT Roundtable
All,
I know you have been waiting with bated breath for what I wanted to discuss.
Here's hoping I don't disappoint you.
First, at ArLA last year we discussed becoming more involved in ArLA as an
organization. One thought was to provide a presenter at each annual
conference - preferably a tech training, or something else. What can we
offer & how do we entice people to present for us?
Second, I would like ArLA IT Roundtable to officially "sponsor" the
Collaboration unConference - or whatever we want to call any successive
ones. Based on feedback that I've received, the first one was well received
and people are interested in having another one. So, should we ask for a
budget to help with this?
What other items should I bring up? What else should the group pursue?
Thanks.
George
